P3

My TV show is named The Hunt and is a horror drama with a 15 rating, with a target audience of 16-35 year olds. The extract will be from episode 2 of the show and is a promotional tool for the TV show. My script will be a shooting script since it is designed with production in mind and will use 12 point courier font as well as being in present tense with any voiceovers being included in the script as well as having dialogue that is reminiscent to how people speak in real life. The angle of this script will include some POV camera shots from the antagonists perspective but the majority of the script follows the group of protagonists. The script will follow the characters where all but one (Mike) go in search for their friend Ethan that is said to have left the night before and did no come back, the remaining character will then be murdered by the antagonist on screen. The group will then find a shack in the woods and go inside to find Ethan dead on the floor with clear signs of murder. They will then be chased out of the shack by the antagonists partner and then are intercepted by the man seen in the previous scene. The group will then escape the two antagonists and find their way back to the campsite to find the friend dead. In this extract we meet all of the main characters in the show making it a good promotional extract since the audience are introduced to both protagonists and antagonists. In this script I will use industry standard layout and format of script writing with action and slug lines centred left and characters and dialogue centred middle .

Unit 22 P1

P2- Developed ideas

 Extract 1:

Protagonist: The protagonist (Jane) of my show will be included in this extract since it is the introduction to the first episode where the characters are introduced

Characters: this extract introduces all the characters of the show including the villain.

Plot points:

-Inciting incident- Suggestion of a spontaneous camping holiday

-Disruption- Protagonist jane begins to have graphic nightmares of the villain and her friends in the forest while camping

Resolution- shows a large establishing shot of the groups new isolated environment

Twist- killer is seen at the end of the extract while the group are camping

Order of events- The extract will be chronologically timed however the nightmares that the protagonist  has will turn out to be flash-forwards that take place at the end of this episode and episodes to come.

Scene headings:

Scene one- UFO comes down to earth showing the face of the villain

Scene 2- Characters come out of school in conversation

Scene 3- Jane's nightmares

Scene 4- Drive to the campsite+ establishing shot

Scene 5- Villain is revealed

Actions and directions:

In my script I will direct the actors to make sure the performance seems authentic to teen behaviour so that there is a sense of relatability to the characters.

Parentheticals:

In my script, I will  use parentheticals occasionally however only when it is needed. For example for lines where the characters need to be sarcastic or scared.

Transitions:

For this extract, I will use basic transitions between scenes and cuts between shots

Shot Types:

For this extract, I will use a number of establishing extra wide shots to set the scene and demonstrate the isolation that the protagonist finds herself in after they get to the location of the show. As well as this, I will use tracking dolly shots to show a fluid movement to the characters and the show

Extract 4:

Protagonist: the protagonist of this scene is the protagonist of the whole show and will be alongside the other characters

Characters: the group of friends will all be in this  extract except the one who died in the previous episode however his body will be found later in the extract inside the house of the villain. The villain will be seen in this extract but not in full such as in the previous extract

Plot points:

Inciting incident-the group set out to find their friend who went missing last night when they find a small cabin

Disruption- they enter the cabin since it seems deserted and discover the body of the friend

Resolution- this extract resolves with disruption as the group have to escape the house and have an encounter with the villain with one of the group dead

Twist- the reveal of the body for the characters will be a twist however the audience should expect it

Order of scenes:

This extract will have a chronological storyline to it with no flash backs meaning it will be easy to follow and the action. As well as this, having flash backs in a dramatic extract such as this could retract from the excitement since the tension that has been built up over the scene will be taken away by cutting to a flashback which ruins the excitement.

List of scene headings:

Scene 1- kids realise that one of them is missing and set out to find him

Scene 2- kids stumble upon the cabin in the woods

Scene 3-they enter the cabin

Scene 4- discover the body of the missing friend

Scene 5- Chase scene with the villain

Actions and direction:

For this extract, the main directions I will give the actors in my script to act disturbed and scared to build the tension that the scene has when the characters enter the house

Parentheticals:

Parentheticals in this script may be used in the scene inside the house where the characters must be directed to whisper.

Transitions:

In this script, I will use editing techniques to create an effect of horror.  I plan on using cut-on-action during this extract to create a dramatic effect since this makes the action fast paced and exciting. I also plan on using J-cuts in-between one location to the other. I plan on using diegetic sound of a scream to change the location of one area in the cabin the characters find themselves in to another. By using a j-cut, it adds mystery since the viewer cannot directly see what is happening since it is not on screen which makes the scene exciting.

Shot types:

In this extract, I plan on using low angle wide tracking shots when the characters are walking through the forest of the location of the cabin. The tracking of the camera will be unsteady as if it is handheld, this paired with a lot of negative space around the characters will create an isolated effect and unsettle the viewer.

I chose extract 4 for the one to continue to write my script about. This extract will conform to the brief in that it will be 10 minutes and a dramatized clip that will be effective in marketing the tv drama. This is the best extract out of the 6 since it will be the most entertaining of them with large amounts of tension and action while not spoiling major plot points that would ruin the watch experience when the show comes out. The large amounts of action in the scene will surely peak the viewers interest more so than the other extracts as well as the introduction of characters including the villain. The introduction of the characters in this way will be interesting to the viewer since introducing them after the plot has started means the audience will be have to get to know the characters straight away which makes the story fast paced and exciting and will peak the audiences interests. This will appeal to the target audience since the action will prove interesting to the short attention span of people 16-25 meaning this extract will be able to retain viewers so they will watch the whole extract then hopefully watch the actual TV show. This extract is one of the stronger parts of the narrative and will definitely be one of the most tense scenes in the entire show due to the new environment that the characters find themselves in in the cabin in the woods and the jump scares that occur in the scene. This extract wont end on a cliff-hanger however it will end with the stakes of the plot being raised since the main characters are now aware that they must fight for their lives. This raise of stakes is the main reason why this extract is the strongest since it demonstrates to the viewer the basic principle of the show and what it is about.

Unit 22-P2 response to brief and initial ideas

In this brief, the company has asked me to create a script for the and dramatized scene in my TV drama. The script can be 10-15 minutes long meaning in a TV drama script it will be 10-15 pages of 12 point courier font. The purpose of this product is intended to advertise my TV drama by showing an entertaining and dramatic clip of my show. This will be good for advertisement since my choses target audience can get enjoyment out of the short clip in order to become excited for the release of the show.

The type of script needed for this purpose will be a shooting script since this is showing on screen footage meaning dialogue, action, slug lines and character names are needed.

Extract 1:

Positives-Showing the opening to episode 1 will be useful for introducing the characters meaning the audience can have some insight into the feel of the show. The opening scene of this extract will be a positive since it opens with action in order to grab the viewers attention straight away with excitement.

Negatives- The filming of this extract will be harder to accomplish than some other extracts due to the multiple locations that would be needed in order to stick to the script. This would be difficult since the transportation of all the crew, actors and equipment needed would be costly and time consuming

Extract 2:

Positives- the positives of this extract would be the ease of filming since it all takes place in a single location meaning there would be less transportation therefore less cost. As well as this, the content of this extract is entertaining and full of action meaning the viewer will be committed to watching the show on release.

Negatives- this extract may not be ideal to show for a promotional video since it will include full body shots of the villain which may not be the right idea since the concept of my villain in the show is based around mystery therefore showing a full body shot of the killer will remove the mystery around the villain.

Extract 3:

Positives- This extract would be easy to film since it stays in on location that is easily accessible to crew. The content in this episode will be good as a promotional clip since it will introduce the viewer into the murder mystery element of the show. This will be exciting to the audience since there will be a large amount of tension and conflict which is fun to watch

Negatives- The lack of physical action could be seen as boring to some younger viewers with shorter attention spans

Extract 4:

Positives- It sets the location of the drama well while also adding to the mystery around the villain and giving insight into his character. This scene will be interesting since there could be a high amount of tension built and potential for jump scares inside the killers house

Negatives- there could be a lack of action in this scene which for some viewers may be boring

Extract 5:

Positives-This scene will be very action heavy and will look good on screen with the right shot types and cinematography which makes for a good looking appearance for the villain. This will be good for advertisement since this scene clearly shows the basis of the plot of my show and shows the genre of my show. Showing the villain in full will also be beneficial since it usually generates

Negatives-This could potentially ruin the mystery around the villain while also spoiling the climax of the first episode therefore generating less drama around

Extract 6:

Positives-Very action heavy meaning it will be very exciting for the viewers

Negatives- Final climax of the series will be ruined showing the full death scene of the villain in the final scene
