Changing the genre of a pre sourced clip
This is an edit I did in my own time in order to better understand the tropes of genre and how to portray them on-screen. |The original clip seen in this footage is a simple dolly down a corridor in a library, the lighting is bright with smooth camera tracking. The genre I chose for this mini-project was to change it to horror. To do this, I reduced the exposure to make the shot darker and changed the colour balance to a have a red hue. This change allowed the footage to be more inline with the horror genre since the darkness adds tension do to the physical change of limited visibility as well as being in line with the trope of horror footage often being dark and moody. Furthermore, I added music to the clip to increase the tension, this music is very stereotypically horror esque with low pitched uncomfortable sound and ambience making the scene scarier. Slowing the clip down further made it scarier since, by extending the time the audience is placed under the harsh environment of watching the clips with the other changes made, the tension builds as the camera moves down the corridor.
